What a sweet movie... one of my favorites!

I find it kind of sad that the majority of the movie-going public would find this movie boring. I saw it in theaters when it was first released, and just saw it agaiin on FX yesterday. I had almost forgotten about it. It's one of those sweet, fun movies, with a great cast of both well-knowns and "hey, it's that guy" actors. Hope Davis, David Paymer, Martin Short, Jane Adams, Ted Danson, Zooey Deschanel (in her first role), the list goes on. Not to mention the gorgeous Alfre Woodard, a great Jason Lee (he's so cute in this!), and one of my favorites, Loren Dean.

Maybe a lot of folks don't have the attention span to watch a movie that's all about talking and conversations. I mean, there are no car chases and explosions, just great relationships, a beautiful setting (I'd love to live in a town like Mumford), and basic human nature. My husband, for instance, would never sit and watch this! This is one of those films that just makes me think about things. Plus, I tend to be the kind of person that people love to tell their troubles to. I guess I feel a connection with the character of Dr. Mumford.

Also, where has Loren Dean been recently? I've loved him since "Say Anything", and he's great in another of my favorites, "Apollo 13". He's one of those underrated, chameleon-like actors, and is so very cute as well. Come back to the five and dime, Loren Dean, Loren Dean!

Great post; a very convivial film.

I recently watched it again, after quite a while, and was so surprised to see Jason Ritter and Elisabeth Moss as Mary McDonnell's two kids! Elisabeth especially looked so young.
