why people dislike Michelle Pfeiffer in this movie?

Why people seems dislike Michelle Pfeiffer's performance in this movie, or people just basically dislike the movie itself?
Since Michelle's well-known to be one of the most talented & beauitful actress in Hollywood, and this role should be perfect for her, however, it doesn't come out as what people expected or it could be the directing problem?
Anybody have any ideas or what did the media said at that time?:)

I just thought she wasn't my ideal Titania -- she seemed kind of phony in the role. So did rest of the cast.

reply

Meh. She was naked. I have no complaints :)

Haha. Just kidding. I'm not that shallow. Yes, she did seem a bit phony as the role of Titania, but it's not overly horrible. Just a little awkward.

You see that yellow stuff? That's my awesomeness.

I also agree that Michelle Pfeiffer ways merely reading her lines. All the other characters (Puck, Helena, Oberon, etc) did a GREAT job in their respective roles.

I liked her in the role. She was one of my faves compared to others.

I personally thought she was great. If you watch the movie closely you can pick up on all the little things she adds in there to make her character come to life. You just have to look more carefully maybe. She is beautiful so that shouldn't be a problem..haha

I personally thought Michelle Pfeiffer was a perfect choice for Titania. She does a great job in the movie, along with the rest of the cast... especially Kevin Kline as Bottom.

Surround yourself with people you love; they're easier to fight for than principles.

I'm not a real big Michelle fan, but I thought she was absolutely perfect for the role.

reply

i thot she was good

i wasnt like oh my god wow but she wasnt bad at all

im in a production of the show right now so i can judge her pretty well.

everyone else was good.

the movie itself is a very interesting adaptation, much of oberon is cut out, and bottom is much more dynamic and basically the main character of the movie. the show is very much an ensemble but when you have a great actor like kevin kline i understand using him to his fullest.

i liked the adaptation, but as an adaptation. it did not help me with my role or understand the show at all. but i enjoyed it and it did what is was supposed to do.

but michelle is perfectly fine in it. just not as good as she could be probably

michelle was simply perfect in this movie...

I think that the Fairy Queen here is quite arch and Michelle Pfeiffer's version is actually low key for Titania. Don't forget that she is being mocked by her husband, and not entirely without reason. Shakespeare makes considerable effort to both weave an illusion and to remind us that this is a play so that we will realize the play-like quality in the layers of the story and our own lives. I loved Michelle Pfeiffer in this role.

Are you kidding me? She's horrid! Really- she had NO IDEA WHAT she was saying as Titania in this movie! Sure, she's one of the most known actresses and I think that's just because of her "beauty"- she really, really has much problems with her acting in most movies I've seen her in. Take it from me, as an actress- she is just speaking the words without comprehension- I can tell, as she does most time. She is a big disappointment.

reply

omg i cant beleive anyone would say that mind you your prob jealous cause she really can act and if you didnt already know shes hates the fact that she is judged because of her beauty which is sometimes a prob when casting but noone has the right to say she cant act coz iv'e never seen a better actress!

reply

She looked absolutely perfect but I agree: she hasn't got a clue what she's saying.

I felt sorry for her, how embarrasing is that? I was cringing every time she opened her mouth.

reply

You are a horrible person. How do you know she wasn't comprehending the words? Were you in her head as she was processing her thoughts? NO. It's one thing to attack a visible flaw in a character or actor/actress, but when you start deliberately attacking the person on such an unsturdy, questionable cause you take it to a whole other level. And you know what that is? Either plain meaness (for the sake of meaness) or jealously. And I think it's the latter rather than the former.

Also, take some advice from Disney:

If you can't say something nice don't say nothing at all.

I think many of us felt that Pfeiffer's performance failed to deliver. Casting such a beautiful actress as the queen of the fairies seemed like a very promising development.

I haven't seen this film in a long time, but in my memory it came across as if Pfeiffer was merely speaking the lines she had memorised without adding any extra intonations and/or character traits. I consider this as one of her blandest performances, and more so because (for me) the movie itself failed to deliver as well.

That said, I am a huge fan of Pfeiffer's and would watch this movie any day of the week just to see her in it. I just feel that she could have done so much more with this role...

I hadn't heard anything of the such, and am surprised anyone would have a negative opinion of her in this film.
