Similar TV Movie?

I'm looking for the title of a very similar love fantasy made-for-TV movie that I saw, maybe in the 1980s. A teen age boy in modern Massachusetts makes contact with a girl who lives in the same town in the 1600s. They communicate over the 300-year time difference by leaving messages under a big rock along a steam which exists in both time periods. I thought this was also Hallmark Hall of Fame, but I can't find any reference to it anywhere. Does anyone else remember it?

This does not sound familiar to me but now I am intrigued. I will be obsessed until I find it... when I find it I will post the info.

I am also a fan of time travel romance. Kate & Leopold (2001), The Lake House (2006), and another Hallmark movie - The Edge of the Garden (2011), are all great movies of this type. Enjoy!

You may be thinking of an episode of the 1980s TWILIGHT ZONE titled "A Message from Charity". I don't remember them leaving messages under a rock but, then again, it's been 25 years since I saw it.

There is one message under a rock in "A Message from Charity" but its not their main method of communicating. I am pretty sure this 80s Twilight Zone episode is what you are thinking of.

I will try to get it from Netflix.
Any other time travel stories similar to "The Love Letter"?

In the late seventies, Lindsey Wagner appeared in a made-for-tv movie, "The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan", which involved time travel. It was a haunting love story and poses the question of whether it is possible and/or ethical for the time traveler to alter the past. It has been many years since I saw the movie but I recall being caught up in the romance of the story. I wonder if 30+ years would alter my perception if I saw it again.

found this movie because of the whole remake debate, with this movie made as Il Mare, and Il Mare made as The Lake House, with the Lake House stating its based on Il Mare

As several other participants in this thread have indicated, the thread's initiator is evidently thinking a two-part episode of the revived Twilight Zone series from the 1980s. The episode is based on a short story. In the episode, the modern boy and the Puritan girl communicate via telepathy. At the end of the second episode the girl, through telepathy, tells the boy she's left a message for him under a rock and directs him to its location. He discovers that centuries ago she carved their initials, within a heart, in the rock.

I remember a movie like this, if not the very same one. However, I do not recall the title. I do remember the time-travel romance between the teenagers and that the girl's name was Abigail with Abby for a nickname. Through the course of the plot, Abby communicates to the boy that her father had not approved of her boy friend in the 1600s and that the father had killed her to keep her from marrying the young man. Does this ring a bell? I remember the movie was very spooky with lots of fog and an eery-looking forest, especially at night. I do wish I could remember the title, but perhaps I can go through "Google" to find it. If so, I certainly will share it with you.

I do not believe anyone has mentioned another similar film made in the 1980s, and it is "Somewhere in Time" starring the late Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. This one, I believe, does have a happy ending.
