book vs movie

Can anyone who read the book tell me at what points the movie is different to the book, and if its worth to try and get the book? I saw the movie, and thought it was the only one of the series worth watching, but I don't want to read the book if it will put me off the movie.

HI! Just finished the book after having seen the movie. There are many small differences, specifically, the setting. The book was written in the early '80's and seems a little dated in some of the attitudes about dating. Also, the book takes place in Atlanta, not the Bay Area. There are a few more "love" scenes in the book than in the movie. Regan has more baggage in the book and is also a bit more rough on Claire. Although I enjoyed the book, I liked the movie better.

Regan definately has more baggage than depicted in the film, and is a lot more overbearing than he appears in the movie, but he is still likeable. You get a much better understanding of the relationship between Denny and Regan, as well as Denny and Margo. I actually read the book before I saw the movie, and when I saw it on tv I was so excited. Their are minor changes, but I can't remember them since I haven't seen the movie in a while, but for some reason I think they revolved around Margo. I didn't think they casted her well. She was supposed to be Spanish. I don't remember why Regan wanted Claire to be with Denny in the movie. Was his complaint that he didn't trust Margo, who he thought would wrongly influence Denny's decisions. I think they had Margo working for or with Regan and Denny on the deal to sell the land, but in the book that wasn't the case. I don't know if it was included in the movie, but Regan thought she was a gold digger, and felt that since Claire truly loved Denny for himself and not his money, he decided to give her a makeover so she could have her chance. He later found out that Margo had money of her own. (If this was the case, I'm a little disappointed in Regan. Shouldn't he do a little research before he ruins a relationship lol ) Hopefully this is accurate information. I probably should reread the book and rewatch the movie before I started to answer this post but I couldn't help myself. I hope my ramblings don't deter you from the book. If you liked the movie, the book is definately worth your time.

Thanks, but I managed to get a hold of a copy of the book, and I read it well after I had seen the movie. All I can say is that other than the "makeover" Regan gives Claire/Kenna, there are hardly ANY similarities between the two. The movie is VERY loosely based on the book. They should have gotten Diana Palmer to either write a script from scratch, or stuck to the storyline of the book. Their last name isn't even Montana, no vineyard, no widowed mother, Denny's girlfriend isn;t Margo, no Mr Bernier in the book...No father, no airplane, and a very different relationship between Regan & Claire in the movie.I don't understand the point of making a book into a movie, if the storyline, setting and characters are all entirely different.Still, I;d have to say I enjoyed the movie a little better than the book, not one of the best romance novels I've read...

IMHO, the book was WAY better than the movie but I read the book years before the movie came out!
I'm one of those weird people who, if I've read the book, I rarely see the movie because it's always so different! This one I had to see aND it SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!
