Question about a music near the end (also spoilers).....

I am trying to find an music, which was featured in the movie, and thought somebody here could help.

It starts right where detective McBain shoots David, and right there starts this gothic melody.

I have heard it countless times in other movies (heard it just recently somewhere), and it probably is in a public domain. Anybody could name it please?

At that point there is some very somber orchestral music accompanied by a choral solo, which I'd guess is the contribution of the Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys Choir). It is also heard when Hall is lamenting to Jane that nothing he ever says or does will ever matter. Is that what you mean?

The credits indicate that it's theme music.

Ok, thanks. Yes, that's the one.
It's just that I could've bet that it was in a public domain, (something like from Mozart or Beethoven) and I've heard it countless times in other media, maybe because of choral solo.

Yes, thank you very much.

It is very great.

I can't say I've heard it elsewhere. The solo seems more prominent and evocative than the orchestral music, which is unobtrusive.
I am impressed with just how much those few seconds of that other-worldly musical voice, at those exact moments, add to the whole movie.

Actually I just heard that same choral refrain in End of Days (1999). It sounded very much like that heard in The Thirteenth Floor. No one is credited for the End of Days performance.
