Way Better Than The Matrix

This movie is so underated all the fanboys love their Matrix but this is the far better film.

I don't know about the Matrix, but it's certainly leagues better than that pretentious POS, Inception...

Satan is in deep $h1t!

reply

The Thirteenth floor is okay, but anywhere near Inception.

reply

totally made me think Inception when the chick says "a simulation within a simulation!"

reply

Yes, far better than "Inception." Total waste of time, except for girls/guys with a crush on DiCraprio.

I found that The thirteenth floor combined with Dark city is basically the matrix. They were all released the same year, and the scripts were in circulation at the same time, not saying its a copy or anything, but it's interesting. However I like Matrix better, it's just better produced

reply

I found the thirteenth floor more intriguing. The matrix was okay, kind of like a 2 hour pepsi commercial...very slick and crafted but in the end all they're doing is selling you sugar water.

reply

Yes, Matrix was better produced, with far more money behind it. But if anything, a copy of 13th Floor, which is based on an older book, and I believe was in production first.

Matrix is basically an Action film with some interesting aspects to it. 13th floor is more thoughtful, less CGI-based.

Basically an action film? Were you paying attention at all?

This film and the matrix is pretty similar in complexity and subject matter, but the Matrix is simply far, far better produced. TF has a very b movie feel to it.

reply

I have always preferred the Thirteenth Floor over Matrix.

"I have always preferred the Thirteenth Floor over Matrix."

Me too. The Matrix - all three of them - were totally drained of all humanity for me - mostly due to the simulacrum called Keanu Reeves.

13th Floor is much more apt to evoke some degree of sympathy, even if it takes multiple views to do so.

reply

I like both. Yep, that's possible too.

I'm the grim reaper, lardass, and you're my next customer.

Despite the cheesy fight scenes, The Matrix had cooler sci-fi and of course, much much more in the way of social and philosophical commentary. TF was a nifty little flick in its own right, but I don't see any possible way it could be rated higher than Matrix.

I just got done watching the movie and am glad for not having such a bad taste as you. Plz do not insult The Matrix by mentioning it in the same sentence as this movie. Not saying this movie is bad btw, was an okay flick actually.

reply

And I am glad for not having as bad the english as you.

Hmmmmmm wouldn't say I'm a fanboy but I liked Matrix just by a little. Thou I do agree it was deprived of that 'human-like' feeling because of Keenu but the action really compensated for it..

Look, the budget for this one was $16M (it says estimated and I'll bet it was less) and the budget for Matrix was $63M, so it better have higher production values and better CGI. But this one is definitely one of my guilty pleasures, unsung and under the radar. I could not get it out of my mind for weeks after I saw it. Wonderful concept and finely executed.

Matrix lost its luster with the 2 sequels. It just stretched the material too thin. The first one was perfectly satisfying, and had a fine ending as does this one. One of the things that makes 13th floor so good is that it is perfectly self-contained.

The Thirteenth Floor is a fine movie, but it´s not even in the same league as the Matrix, let alone the better film. The Matrix changed Hollywood and especially the way action movies were made considerably. It has achieved cult status over the years and one the favourite movies of millions of people all over the world.

I enjoyed both very much. Other than sharing a basic theme (which isn't all that original anyway), The Thirteenth Floor and The Matrix are very different stories and films. The big thing is The Thirteenth Floor is a movie more on human terms while the Matrix is a larger than life action film. Loud music, incredible action, special effects etc. The Jesus allegory (the resurrection, the prophesy, the judas character, changing the world)resonated with me and I was making this connection as I walked out of the theatre. The Thirteenth Floor was a great story about the people's lives that are moving between these different levels of reality.
