Lurie sort of a jerk?

I recently watched this DVD and found it pretty amusing and worth watching but a bit hit and miss. However, after watching the episodes as aired I checked out Lurie's commentary and I was sort of disappointed. There was some interesting background info (I was surprised how much was actually staged)but, frankly, I think Lurie comes off as bit of a jerk. He puts people down (the guests, the crew, other people they meet) which is really unfair as these people can't defend themselves or give their side. Not a big deal but I wonder if this impression of him as a bit of a jerk is borne out in other things he has done.

yeah i work for john and he is a jerk. hes awful, claiming that the corn was too cold or making me touch his feet. he occationally forces me to make comments on the internet affirming that he is a jerk. i am stuck in a house in the middle of nowhere with him, no one can save me.

I'm sure it was all in good humour. Except for Tom Waits, perhaps.

I do not see Waits or Lurie as jerks. They are both just unpretenious artists that do not look to cull favor from people for affection. They are both creative geniuses which means they are probably more prickly than those looking for the limelight.

I sort of took the commentary as a joke. I figured he was trying to be funny by acting like the inept fisherman throwing blame on everything but himself.

As did I.

OH I GET IT NOW.
