I've just been looking into this now. I'm a fan of TRANSFORMERS, and I'm amazed how much they're similar.

I too remember watching a go-bots movie we had on video. It wasn't battle of the rock lords because i think it was before they came out. I'm trying to remember but the plot line but it was such a long time ago. I just remember the little red scooter had a big part and if i remember correctly a squeaky voice. and a red sports car called turbo that he used to argue with in a buddy movie type fashion.
I remember the space ship was a dog shaped thing like an AT-AT but the legs foled up and it flew.

I'm sure there is another movie. this can't just be in my head.

The Gobotron Saga mini-series was released as a movie VHS, wasn't it?

reply

I asked COURAGEOUS5 to upload the Gobotron Saga on to You Tube, which is great to see, and nothing about it has changed too much.

I like that Turbo ran interference, took a rather cheap shot at Crasher and the Master Renegade, so that Small Foot could escape.

It's still a mystery what happened to Small Foot between the time that Turbo rescued her, the time that Rest-Q was doing a diagnostic exam on her, and the time that Rest-Q and Professor Von Joy finally restored Small Foot's ability to transform.

There were three movies that I was aware of.

The Battle For Gobotron which was the pilot movie, the Gobotron Saga in which the Guardians received their new power suits from the Last Engineer, and Gobots Battle of the Rocklords which wasn't anything that was worth mentioning.

I'm watching the movie now on YouTube. Margot Kidder sounds nothing like her live-action roles. And Scooter, ha, his voice sounds the same as Baby Oopsy-Daisy from Dollman vs Demonic Toys.

The whole 'Battle of the Rock lords' cross-over thing was pretty typical. It was just a way to introduce kids to another toy line using an existing property as bait. Filmation did the same thing when they snookered a certain impressionable 11 year old into seeing 'Secret of the Sword' only to find out it was a 'She-Ra' movie .

Still, I thought the Rocklords toys were pretty cool.

wallacesawyer is right about Hasbro concentrating on 'Transformers' [from wikipedia]

The film has never been released on DVD. A number of the trademarks used (including 'Gobots', 'Cy-Kill' and 'Leader-1') were taken over by Hasbro when they purchased Tonka, the manufacturer of Gobots, in 1991. Hasbro is unlikely to approve the release of the film on DVD as it would not be in the interest of promoting their Transformers brand.

It would be in the interest is they did a Transformers/GoBots team-up!

Could sell some toys, and a new kids show.

The challenge of the go bots is the name of the movie

Here is a link to a "script" not sure if it's real or whatever but interesting read:

"We've witnessed your human capacity for war. It would absolutely bring more harm than good."

Does't look like that's going anywhere. I thought of a Gobots movie yesterday, and now I'm writing my own movie about giant robots. Not sure what to call it though.

Was Gobots popular enough to have its own movie?

Just an animated film, but I doubt there will ever be a live-action movie.

I thought it was always derided as a transformers knock off

Apparently Gobots did come first, just Transformers got a heck of a lot more popular.
