This movie is a parody. While it has hyper serious tone on the surface its a joke on HSfootball and sports movies. Its in no way perfect with some very dark moments, but the characters(especially the adults) are all like cartoon characters or spoofs on real types of people. Don't take it too seriously, just enjoy it(which is the message about HS football in this).

Yes, but also a very sad commentary on people who live in the shadow of "Glory Days" and never grow up.

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of people who fit this stereotype all over, and not just in Texas.
