Forest?

What's the deal with the Forest with all the random guys in it? This movie was interesting, but I didn't understand the significance of that part at all.

A world of fantasy, I suppose. Forests are typical in fairy tales and things like that.

Number 1, I order you to go take a number 2.

I read the forest as a "place of the body," where various homosexual acts take place and where Sasha has a sexual encounter. After her earlier masturbation scene, she is being drawn more and more into the body preoccupations of her lodger. Later come Tatiana's questions about childbirth, the epesiotomy, and so on. That is why Sasha sleeps nude with the baby, a prelude to the killing.

The forest scene shows Sasha's risky behavior escalating. Anybody with half a brain would have picked up on Tatiana's veiled hostility/jealousy. What mother leaves her baby with some yahoo who is not responsible (polite?) enough to even flush the toilet? Probably the same kind of mother who leaves her baby sleeping alone on a beach (in full sun no less) while she has random sexual encounters with skeezy forest men. It's a numbers game.

It reminded me of Stranger by the lake, another movie that dwells on this subject.
