I'll call it The Toothbrush Scene...

because calling it what it really is might get this message deleted. My god. I remember seeing this film as a teenager in the late 90s, and being completely shocked at this little moment. I mean...POO...in a toilet. And from an attractive young woman, no less. We're not used to that in America (remember, we're rather chaste). Outrageous. How often do we see such a thing in cinema? I'm at a loss for other examples.

That's not to say that the rest of the film wasn't memorable. I enjoyed its disturbed atmosphere, but the poo scene, for me, was the most shocking moment.

I'm curious, because I was 17 when this came out, where did you catch this film?

Years and years ago, on one of the pay channels; HBO, Cinemax or Showtime. I can't remember which of the three precisely.

I see. Well when I was watching this I kept forgetting that this was released about 15 years ago. I wonder what I would have thought if I saw this when it first came out. It still shocked me but by now I have seen lots of disturbing stuff in movies.

Yes--this isn't the only disturbing bit of imagery out there in "mainstream" film, but for some reason, this really sticks out and always will for me. I mean, poop. In a toilet. Toothbrush. Wow.

oh yes it was pretty disgusting. I think the placement of the scene was also a factor because for me it kind of came out of nowhere...
