Okay, my vote is that Robin Wright [in this portrayal] wins as the most wholesomely beautiful woman in a movie. Diane Lane comes close. Not seductive, not perky, not glam. [sorry Claire Forlani, Meg Ryan, Jane Seymour.]
Hahahaha, affromma, you made me seriously laugh! Yes, I don't understand how can anyone say that Robyn Wright is average. I mean, hello! I'm average. Not Robyn Wright. This woman is a true beauty. She doesn't need make up, she doesn't need clothes to hide certain things. She just is beautiful. Now, everyone its type. But I don't see always Robyn Wrights passing by in a mall.
RW does look beautiful in this picture, but I'm guessing it has more to do with the cinematographer than anything else. Fwiw, I'm a big fan of Preston Sturges, and the women in his movies always look incredibly beautiful - Barbara Stanwyck, Linda Darnell, etc. If you want to find the movie they looked their best in, look for the one directed by Sturges.
I'm not sure how much of it has to do with her actual facial structure/features as to how she portrayed the part...the script and how she carried herself, her body language and expression. She seems to have the features that allow her to be presented as very attractive. I also think she COULD be made to look less so with the proper (or should I say improper) makeup, lighting and facial expressions.
The dialogue and her delivery made her sound and look real, as if she was actually living the scenes and the story. I was convinced. They tried (and succeeded IMHO) making her come across as solid, interesting and passionate. And I think those are the kinds of characteristics that were supposed to have attracted Garrett NOT just, or even primarly, her appearance.
Rizdek, I found your answer so intelligent, so precise and deep. Thank you. Yes, Robin Wright had a wonderful role in this movie : a role that went beyond her looks. She's lucky. Most pretty women get movies where it's almost all about their looks...
