Have you ever eaten croc or gator meat?

I am planning a trip down south and wanted to see if anyone ever ate croc or gator meat and what did you think?

I don't know if you have already gone on your trip or if this is just a joke post but in all seriousness if you are heading south ie the southern USA then gator tail is a fairly common menu item depending on where in the south you are. It is typically fried in a chicken strip style and believe it or not tastes pretty much like chicken but if you haven't had it it's worth tryin. Have fun on your trip.

Came back from my trip but am going back again in late March. Their is a cajun cafe near Dallas, TX suburb (forgot the name) that I guess is known for their gator. My friend told me I have to try it, long story short I couldn't do it. I keep thinking about the live gator and get grossed out but like you said, everyone who was eating it said it taste just like chicken. Who knows, depending how hungry I am next time I go, maybe I'll try it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I know there is a (small?) chain named RAZOOS.
One of those is north of Dallas on the east side of Interstate 35-E (I-35E) and just south of SH 121, in Lewisville, TX. I believe there is another near the Dallas Cowboys football stadium and the Texas Rangers baseball stadium in Arlington, all near Six Flags Over Texas.
There are probably other locations as well, and maybe not just in Texas.

I've had gator sausage in gumbo, and some of those gator tail strips, and I was not that impressed. However, according to some 'authentic' Cajuns from Louisiana (state), there are differences in how the tail meat is prepared. The quick and dirty way is to simply cut the tail meat into strips, season and bread the strips, then deep fry. The other preparation does the same basic method, but removes the small pockets of fat from the strips before breading. That is supposed to significantly change the taste to be milder and less 'greasy'.
Another possible way to cook the tail meat is to cook it in a pressure cooker, and that is supposed to make the meat much more tender (that works for frog legs, and they are very tender.)

BTW, the usual "tastes like chicken" comment just might come from deep frying both chicken and gator in the same deep fryer/grease... I don't know if that is true since I have not worked in a RAZOOS, so that is just a thought. I did work in a couple of burger places, and the fries go in the 'new grease' and the other deep fried items go in the grease that was used for fries first, filtered and then moved to fry the other items. (P.S. that also has to do with the cooking temperature difference for those items.)

Ages ago I ate crocodile and kangaroo side by side. The croc was a lot nicer.

Definitely try some.

I visited New Orleans this past February and tried Gator Bites, which were like chicken nuggets only made from gator meat. We also tried gator sausage, which is mixed with beef sausage for a more workable texture. Both were interestingly good...but it was hard to get past the idea enough to work up the gumption to try it open-mindedly (is that a word)...but I'm glad I did!

Whether you like a movie or not doesn't make it good or bad. It's all a matter of opinion.

I've had crocodile in an Aussie themed restaurant in Europe and also when visiting the US. Very nice it was too; white/chicken like meat with a faintly fishy taste.

I've had gator stew. It reminded me of braised beef.

Eww, no. And I wouldn't even if I were paid a million dollars. I have heard that it tastes like chicken though. But I'm still not going to chance it.
