One Major Flaw

Just finished watching this for the first time and enjoyed it okl...kinda hit the spot for what I was in the mood for...some funny lines, action, indie grittiness. But what I can't believe that no one has mentioned, which ruins the whole story line for me is....if Adam and Zack were actors on a cop TV show....they would never have been made to go under cover! Ok - perhaps Ronna wouldn't have recognized them but surely someone in the supermarket. I just don't buy that fairly well known actors (we see it when they knock on the cheater's door and encounter that giggley woman) would become narcs

I think Adam and Zack were soap actors. I think they would have been fairly well-known (Claire recognized them in the supermarket) but I don't see why that would excuse them from being narcs. They obviously purchased before so it wouldn't be so unbelievable that they were trying to buy again. I don't see it as much of a plot hole.

As for the giggly woman at the door of the cheater's apartment... She wasn't giggling because she was standing in front of two television stars. She was nervous because she knew that they were each sleeping with her roommate but she wasn't sure if they knew that or not. It was nervous giggling! Then when they said they knew about each other she giggled in relief as she told the story of the one time they had just missed each other (one was coming in to see the roommate just after the other left).

Good point on the first remark and yes I thought of that too on your 2nd remark. I feel better now-LOL!

Claire didn't recognize Adam and Zack in the store, she could just tell they were a gay couple. Her line was merely to point their sexuality out to any viewers who might not have picked up on it yet. As far as their fame goes, I don't recall their level of success being dwelled upon. There are millions of channels with millions of small programmes, they might not be very well known so it's not totally unthinkable to send them on a drugs bust.

PisceanMom, that is the biggest load of bull I have ever read. What a wild imagination you have.

First of all, Claire didn't recognise them in the supermarket as soap stars. She recognised them as two gay men, thus revealing to us the audience that they are gay.

And the woman was giggly because here were two soap stars standing in front of her.

Why do people try and find deeper meanings, when the obvious ones are right there above th surface?

PisceanMom nailed it on the head! Try watching sober once!

#1 - She recognized them as gay men. Thats it.

#2 - The girl giggled because they both sleep with her roommate, not because they are soap stars. Its not trying to find deeper meaning, its seeing what is right there in front of you.

Sorry AugustGorman/Popular Demand- I'm watching the movie as I type. With regard to the scene between the giggling woman and the two soap actors-she made it very clear that she was laughing because both the guys were dating the same man and neither was aware of it-she even laughed and said that they had once missed each other by 5 minutes. She also asked if they were now aware of the situation-to which they replied - they obviously were.

I was actually interested in seeing who was correct because your response to PisceanMom was so rude-unnecessarily so..
In the future, it's always a good idea to double check your response especially before you criticize another poster. Watch again and you'll see your mistake. It's a great film-give it another go...

Unsure why so many others kept commenting after u gave correct answer PisceanMom but thanks 4 having OP's answer.

To add ~ ppl really need 2 pay attention to movies when they watch and not make assumption. Especially the part of them being Narcs. That was not case ... they were asked to bust a drug dealer that the cop figured they could get a hold of via their so-called middle man at grocery store. Who obviously turned out to been Claire/Ronnie's coworker and friend (whom was going to Vegas). They did this to get a deal from the arrest he made on them ... along w/ later having dinner with him and his wife for their side business scheme.

It would still work. I am sure there are very recognisable celebrities who score for drugs. A very famous former child actress was recently busted for buying drugs in the East Village in New York City. The drug dealer didn't recognise her and most of the cops didn't. Also, most recognised celebrities are surprisingly left alone. It's not like TMZ where you have a horde of people hemming celebrities in.

Zack & Adam were on a Soap Opera

reply

You do realize when they were first busted, their job was to go for a specific dealer (british guy) who they usually buy from. But when he's not there the actors improvised.

Them being actors makes them good narcs. Since people don't usually expect them to be narcs.

I don't think they were supposed to be that well-known, because no one recognizes them when they're just out and about. The woman at Jimmy's who giggles knows who they are because she Jimmy's roommate, maybe in the biz, maybe she saw them there and they didn't realize it (that would explain why she knows that they were there "three minutes" apart from each other), etc. It doesn't mean that they're famous and that's the only way she knows them.

Yes - the roommate knows exactly who they are. She tells them, "One time, you missed each other by minutes..." (I'm paraphrasing). That implies that she was there when it happened, and therefore she has seen them in passing.
She is in a weird situation, and I think is trying to make light of it. She clearly knew about the cheating/deception. They're pissed. She also seems to be aware that they were cheating with Jimmy on EACH OTHER, so she knows they can't be too mad about it. They brought it on themselves, and that IS kind of funny...

I hope everyone realizes that the 'giggly woman' was Melissa McCarthy. And she knows how to giggle!
Also, watching this movie's middle section, it's hard not to think of 'the hangover', which had that humor like 'bridesmaids'. A stretch, I know...

The biggest flaw was that Omar Sharif wasn't dead.

you're well aware that this is a comedy and the plot device that actors are hired for an undercover job was supposed to be a gag?

reply

i think you all missed that they were sent undercover to beat a drug charge against them. both of them were caught with possession and in order to get away scott free, they made a deal to get a bigger fish for the cops. this sort of thing happens all the time. the fact that they are famous, would make them more trustable to NOT being cops.
