It's still up this morning, been almost a month.

I'm surprised HBO never did anything with this.

I attend one of the schools where the film took place. One half was filmed in one school and the other was filmed at another (as many people know). If he's talking about the first half of the film (which was filmed at my school), he's actually wrong. Pledging happened in the spring of freshman year, which has since been changed. The President forced HBO to not air it and kicked the chapter off campus.

Just thought you guys should know what actually happened.

"Now, bring me that horizon..."

I actually also went to Oneonta (first half of the film) and yes there was pledging during the spring. I have numerous friends in BX (the frat Todd Phillips pledged). Around the time this was aired Oneonta kicked all frats off campus, since then a few have been reinstated but to this day the majority of all Oneonta fraternities(including mine) are still off campus. Thats alright though, i would much rather be in an off campus fraternity then be in one of the current (gay ass) fraternities the school actually supports.

I can tell you that the first half of this film is all real. Todd came to our fraternity to film the process that pledges go through, but we'd only let him get footage up to the point of the night that the bids were accepted. All fraternities were not recognized one year prior due to pledging first semester freshmen. I can't speak about the second half of the film, but the stuff that transpired is all the lines of what really happens. Every fraternity has their own variations and levels of hazing, but this film is right on the money. They should follow up on this with a 10-year anniversary, like how HBO did the Bangin' in Little Rock documentary. Then they'd get the answer to the question of why people go through all of this anyway. From what I've heard though, the town and the school have done everything they can to eliminate the unofficial greek life. It's just not as exciting as it used to be up there anymore. '95-'00 were the glory days.

I also currently go to Oneonta, and Oneonta greek life pledges whenever they please and does whatever they want. I also pledged an unrecognized sorority and agree with thehopeprocess that I'm glad I pledged unrecognized instead of on campus because they really are pretty gay... and I'm wondering, if Todd Phillips pledged BX, why would he want to show everything bad?

reply

Todd Phillips did not pledge BX at Oneonta. After Blossom threatened to "rip his *beep* head off", Todd and his parter-in-crime high-tailed it to another university (Muhlenberg in PA). At this university, they pledged ATO (Alpha Tau Omega), which was never named, along with the university. As time passed, the secret was let out.

From the movie, ATO pledging is very similar to those elsewhere; from the headstands, to the Tobasco-run. It all seems rather pointless, but it is an amazing experience with a group of people who you can gladly call your brothers once crossing.

Todd was scared of some douche named Blossom? I'm sure his millions of dollars and friendship with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn made up for it. I honestly can't imagine the type of skank that is impressed with a frat guy. Ugh...

reply

Yeah but part 2 is missing dammit!

Oneonta is gay, go to a real college

I was thinking something similar. Apparently these "brothers" suffer from a big fish in a little pond syndrome. Honestly I think some of these guys were hysterical. Is this really what college should be about?
