This was a great movie.

What did you think about it?

reply

I liked it, but it was a bit slow for me. Plus, the part at the end confused the Hell out of me. What's up with the dad getting out of the wheelchair? It's been a while since I saw it last though, so I may have to watch again.

reply

The dad had prosthetic legs and he was standing with them hugging Van. I thought the movie was good except the ending- it ended too suddenly and I was really, really hoping Van and Doug were gonna hook up- two sexy gay guys. yum!

reply

I never thought about that. Hmmm. Van and Doug learned more about life from one another. Van wasn't happy with his home environment and neither was Doug. They were always putting blame on their father's. In the end, Van realized that he never gave his father a chance after the accident because he liked his old life before. This was one of the issues of Van's character.

Yeah I'd have to say Van didn't come off as gay. An unusually understanding friend yes, but not gay. It was different to have a good movie with 2 guys one of them being gey and the other one didn't eventually "realize" he was gay as well. Honestly I think it's hard to find a movie with a strong gay character than can actually interact with an equally strong member of the same sex who is straight. This Movie actually had both, it was good.

I agree, I never thought about it before, but your right, and I did enjoy seeing strong male characters that were both gay and strait. I loved how Doug and Vans relationship didn't change- Van was Dougs best friend no matter what, and he didnt let Doug's homosexuality freak him out or change their friendship. That is a true friend. I know to many people who find out their same sex friend is gay and freak out. Its been the end of alot of friendships that I've seen, which is why some of my gay friends wont admit they are gay to their close friends...they are afraid it will change things. It really shows how close Van and Doug are that it doesnt.
Although i must add that I think Doug's character does have a bit of attraction to Van- especially in the scene where Van in his his bed, the looks he gives him imply. BUT, even if he did, it didnt interfere with their friendship...I've got a close friend who is an attractive male, and although I find him physically attractive, and yes, I've been caught checking my friend out, our relationship is totally platonic and we both like it that way. I can acknowlage his attractivness without acting on it, or even wanting to. He's just something pretty to look at. It doesnt change our friendship.
But hey, if I were Van's best friend, I'd find him attractive too!
Hell I couldnt be Vans friend cuz I'd try to sleep with him all the time....

Also, I really liked this movie, it made me laugh and cry, no joke, I thought it was amazing, especially for a low budget indipendent film.

Van was never gay. Where did that come from? Your fantasy wet dreams??

reply

I didnt like it. It disapointed me. Theres like no plot to it and not much happens. Its a very random and weird movie. I only watched it cuz Norman Reedus was in it with blonde hair, and swimming was involved. Those are major turn ons for me so I said hey it must be a good movie...ha wrong.

I absolutely loved this movie. Norman was handsome as hell in it and I liked the story. My favorite parts were when doug, his sister and van are sitting on the couch and they play that poking game with her. I also liked when Jason does the moon walk while holding the stolen goods retreived form doug's basement... Plus every other scene with norman in it..

It was generally a good movie. Like every movie it had good points and bad ones. I would've liked to see more history with Van's mother and brothers before his dad's accident. and whoever played Van's girlfriend just annoyed the *beep* out of me. but that line "What i put my dick in you and now i can't even touch your shoulder?" it was really good for an independent movie. Great sceneary. No, i'm not JUST talking about Reedus. i mean the pond and everything.

Finally got to see it and enjoyed it. Not all parts like his moody gf, smoking, other girls, his burglarizing friends especially leading to the sad ending. Really felt for Van and his dad and their situation and for Doug and the way his Dad treats him. That ending scene with Vans Dad was a tearjerker. Completely thought he was being taken in for the burglary.

I thought this was a great movie and I can't for the life of me figure out why it didn't propel Norman Reedus into super stardom. It would still be another 13 or so years before he became a household name. He had star quality written all over him even then. Especially at the end where he broke down crying when his dad hugged him. That was a wonderful performance.

While I agree with some of the people on here that said it would have been awesome if Van and Doug hooked up, it made the story stronger that they didn't. The fact that they could be friends despite their numerous differences was in my opinion the subject of the movie. Like speaks to like even if it seems that there's nothing in common there.

That being said, it was obvious Doug had an attraction to Van and I wouldn't have hated seeing him at least try to kiss him :D Anyone who has seen "Dark Harbor" or "Octane" knows that it's obvious Norman Reedus has no aversion to touching mouths with other guys. He's a great man lol.

It was better for the story that nothing like that happened (aside from their little wrestling match right before Van discovered Doug was gay, I was twisting the hell out of that and loving it), but the guy-on-guy-contact-loving freak in me would have liked to see it, aside from the story xD

All in all it was a good film with the ability to make you laugh and cry. I give it an 8/10.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought it captured the whole summer vibe very well, so I liked that it was slower. The movie wouldn't of been as good if Van and Doug hooked up. It would of made it a completely different movie, and I liked the way it was. Norman Reedus man.. ughhhh it's painful to watch him because he is just so damn gorgeous.
