Feasible to be made into a movie now

Was supposed to be a movie, was deemed too expensive and difficult by Spielberg, but times have changed, and Disney owns this movie now. Of course, probably no one remembers it. But it'd be a cool counterpart to Contact (unrelated, but just a neat set of two alien technology-themed films).
