Would a revival of 'Hollywood Squares' work today?

It's been almost 8 years since Bergeron's Whoopi-less Hollywood Squares left the air. I understand MTV is bringing back the concept for its new Hip-Hop Squares, which I don't think I will watch but one episode out of curiosity.

If it could work, with so many comedies on the air today on television and in movies, they could have several of those celebs in the squares, and there would hopefully be great comedic chemistry between them. I would love to see people from all the different comedies on CBS/NBC/ABC/Fox as well as cable and premium (and other types of shows where dramatic actors can let loose on set) mingle together.

As for hosts? Since Jerry O'Connell doesn't have a regular acting gig since The Defenders on CBS last season, I think he could make a good host. Like Tom Bergeron before, O'Connell has the looks, charm, and personality (as well as voice) to channel John Davidson from the 1980's. Plus he is a naturally funny guy. I would probably not want it to be another stand-up comedian but someone more in the vein of game show hosts from the early 1990's and before. After Community ends (if it ended by then), Joel McHale could also make a great game show host for this (and other games) or even announcer/center or bottom square like Shadoe Stevens (or bring back Shadoe himself). Joel could do double duty hosting The Soup and being on this. But Joel might wind up being too busy with movies to do it.

What do you think?

I can't think of a reason this wouldn't work nowadays. I loved this show growing up in the 80's when John Davidson was the host. Am i mistaken, or did they hire him because he was one of the dumbest squares from an earlier version?
