Started watching this on Amazon Instant Video (free to Amazon Prime). The very first scene has someone being shot. I sort of understand the prelude to the shooting. But... what does it have to do with what follows? Suddenly, we're on another continent...

The opening scene is to explain why Tyburn got sent to Kenya "under a cloud". The explanation is fleshed out a little later in the series.
