Monster in the closet episode is NOT true and this is why.

I personally contacted the man who collected true accounts for the show. I asked him where he got his proof for this. He responded to me with this:

The Beyond Belief: fact or fiction story about the monster in the kid’s closet was based on an actual event that I personally investigated in Florida many years ago. At the time it happened there was no explanation for the boy’s disappearance—until two weeks later when it was learned that he had climbed out of the closet through a ceiling panel and ran away from home. He stayed at a friend’s house surreptitiously until the friend’s mother discovered him hiding in the attic of their home and exposed the ruse. Unfortunately, the show producer responsible for checking out the truthfulness of each story was not informed until too late that the little boy had turned up at a friend’s house several blocks away.

Investigators who had tapped the ceiling and walls in the closet did not find the panel because the boy (age 11) had wedged two pieces of wood into place over it when he was in the crawl space above the closet.

So there you guys go. It was a creepy story but turned out not to be true.

That's interesting, thanks for the post. I can't say I'm really surprised that this didn't turn out to be true, but it's still a good segment of a great show.

Just curious, how did you contact Robert Tralins?

reply

He has a website with his email posted on it.

Oh man, THANK YOU. Something didn't seem right about the story at all. I mean, I'm a superstitious guy, but this seemed WAY too weird.

LOL, Your welcome.

IF HE RAN AWAY..WHY DID HE LEAVE HIS PANTS AND SHOES BEHIND? I REMEMBER IN THAT EPISODE WHEN THEY OPEN THE CLOSET AND HIS CLOTHING(WHICH HE HAD BEEN WEARING) WAS THERE...AND WHEN THE COPS CAME THEY INVESTIGATED THE CLOSET? I'M CONFUSED!! EXPLAIN!!

reply

He left them behind to make it look like the monster ate him and left behind the parts that were not edible. I'm sure he had a change of clothing in the attic.

Or that could have just been an exaggeration

Hmm maybe the actual family was different then how they portrayed in the show or maybe he just actually had problems but kept it to himself? But anyways he wouldnt run off naked, he probably changed clothes when he went inside the closet.

reply

Thanks! Now I can sleep comfortably at night without clutching at a weapon.

reply

this one didnt make sense to me either. happy u explained it

reply

That still doesn't explain anything.

Thats good to know.I was scared to death that a monster lived in my closet when I seen this around the time I was eight.

I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation for the story besides the Boogeyman. Having seen re-runs of this show again recently, I have a hard time believing many of the alleged true stories. But I consider it more as entertainment than a source for factual paranormal occurrences.

This doesn't mean the story isn't true. They never said it was a monster, just that the boy disappeared. The only part that isn't true is that the boy was gone forever.

Maybe I'll just sit here and bleed at you.

reply

I have an explanation for all of it. It's bullsh*t. That's what it is.

Well yes it does mean that it's not true. The title of the story is "Monster in the closet". We are meant to believe that a monster took the kid away, hense his clothing is left behind and there is no way for him to have left the closet without other people witnessing it at the time.

"You built a time machine....out of a DeLorean?"

reply

Wow. Good work.
Brings up the question of what made the kid want to run away to the point that he went through all that though. But that kind of stuff does happen.
There is only so much research that can be done for sure on these things so a mix up like that is bound to happen. Plus distinguishing the "true events" from the parts that are dramatizations can make it seem iffy too.
Anyway, good post.

reply

Before this show ever aired I knew of this story having lived down here my whole life. What the original poster said is true, the boy did turn up later. It happened in 1989 in Fort Lauderdale.

Thank you Nadia and Graham.

May I humbly interject, that the title for this segment was named:

* KID in the closet *

NOT monster..

I have the entire series on hand, so theres no disputing about that.

So in essense this story IS TRUE afterall.

It appears strange though that you could do so much research on this segment but yet miss out the most critical piece of info, which is the title name for it.

Which makes one speculate whether your claims of contacting the original story-provider are even true: Are they FACT or FICTION ?

Doubt No. 1)

How do you know who was the story provider?

Doubt No. 2)

Why didnt you even give a name of who this source actually is? What is there to hide?

Doubt No. 3)

How is it that you are able to contact this individual and obtain clarification for the segment, while so many else here, cant?

Doubt No. 4)

What proof has this source provided to justify what he said was legitimate and not another concocted hoax?

reply

Excellent, Geskhan. That's exactly my reaction to the OP.

I could not agree more.

reply

Well I believe she said she had emailed Robert Tralins from his website, you could try to contact him yourself but I believe he's dead now.

The only thing I don't get is why he said something about not knowing the boy returned until it was too late, as if it was all happening while he was doing the story.. yet he had already said it happened years before?

reply

Even though I doubt the monster in the closet story...I doubt your information as well. Let's see...a message board poster has inside information and contacts the people involved in producing the show. To this random internet poster, the producer admits they made a major mistake and the boy in reality turned up two weeks later. As for the OP remarks..I say FICTION!

reply

Umm no not fiction. I already told everybody on here that you can email the dude from the show yourself.

I told my friend about this and we attempted to pull it off. He went into his closet and would do what Brian did. Bang on the door and beg for someone to open the door. He then stopped and pushed a celing panel over and then snuck out a window that was in the attic. It's pretty easy. not to mention no one was outside or even paying attention downstairs to notice. That was probably how the kid was able to get away with it.

What about the Red Eyed Creature episode? How was that one true?

reply

\back in the early 2000s I believe there was a television program that showed haunted houses. There was one episode or segment where a girl described how she woke up in the middle of the night to find big, glowing, red eyes staring back at her. I think at the end of the episode they showed the supposed ghost thing living in the house. Anyway, the point is the writers probably took that story and changed it up a bit. It's not uncommon for most shows to do that.

The dramatization of the big glowing red eyes still scare the *beep* out of me to this day.

I wish I had more to show you but even I'm having trouble finding out this old tv show.

I get it up, I get it up in the dark, I make her feel I'm not a holy man
