Frakes had a great Sense of humour

Hi all.

One of the main points of enjoyment I get from this show Frakes' puns and ad libs at the end of each story. Were they scripted or purely spontaneous?

I have a feeling that most, if not all, of them were scripted--but Frakes does have such a great sense of humor in real life that he pulls them off very naturally. And who knows, some of them might actually have been his own ideas!

Thanks. Although they might be scripted to some degree, I'll give more weight to Frakes' own style.

Sure...after all, the best script in the world isn't going to be nearly as impressive if spoken by an inappropriate actor or host. That special style is exactly why the vast majority of fans prefer Frakes' hosting to Brolin's, and likely the main reason that the show became his after the first season. Few could have done it as perfectly as he did.

Frakes was brilliant as the host. His delivery was fantastic.

I think the reason Frakes was such a good host is because you can tell he wanted to be there. His cheesy jokes helped that perception because they were so bad but you can tell he was amused by them. It is like he is lovingly poking fun at the show and himself.

I always thought it was weird (and pretty creepy) that there was no pun after the "Tants" segment. Frakes just stop talking and they focused on the picture with the music playing. I never really understood why that was the only segment that they left it out. Maybe they thought this segment was too serious to joke about.

Yeah, I think the subject matter of that one didn't give them a good opportunity for a quip...so they just let you contemplate it for a few seconds for a change. ^^
