So others have been there, eh?

So we know Hitomi's grandmother was there, but that was way too early for her to bring a CD with her. That means there has been at least one other recent visitor to Gaia, or someone from Gaia visited Earth and brought that back with them.

I'd be interested in a spinoff series that takes place before or after the regular series. One that's not about the characters from the original series (though I wouldn't be opposed to them making cameos) that takes place in Gaia. Thoughts?

Gaia has had a few visitors from Earth. Dornkirk was supposedly Isaac Newton and the J-Pop CD certainly points towards the conclusion that at least one other person from modern day Japan had been there. It's not made clear how one get's transported to Gaia. Issac Newton was longing for another world on his death bed while it seemed Hitomi's grandmother was transported there randomly.

There was actually a video game made based on Escaflowne, in which there was a subplot about one of Hitomi's classmates coming to Gaia and turning into a Zaibach Guymelef pilot, so the prospect of people from Earth visiting Gaia isn't really that implausible. They even had fully animated cutscenes that could have been taken straight out of the tv show, and would probably have been, had the series not been cut down to just 26 episodes. They also featured a scene in which Escaflowne gets briefly transported to Earth and different endings. You can find them on Youtube.
