Now taking pre-orders at Warner Archive!

With little fanfare, WB have announced a DVD release of URGH! A MUSIC WAR, as part of their internet-only Warner Archive label. As such, it will only be shipped to U.S. buyers, and will be a no-frills release (some titles include a trailer, but I don't think one was ever made for URGH), but it will be 16x9. The info page lists a 116 minute running time, which is longer than the commercial theatrical release, but shorter than the original VHS release, which suggests that some performances may be cut. Rumor has it that the rights to the Gary Numan performance of "Down in the Park" reverted back to it's director, and has been cut from recent HDNet broadcasts of the film, so that may account for the difference. Supposedly, relations between the former members of Dead Kennedys are so terrible that they would not sign off on any new licensing for previous work, so that may be gone too. I hope there will be a detailed announcement from WB sometime soon on this matter.

You can preorder the title here:

Also listed in this batch of releases are other late '70's-early '80's favorites ALL THE MARBLES, CARNY, BOULEVARD NIGHTS, and MIKE'S MURDER, also up for pre-order.

Thanks SO much for posting this!

I'm actually burning a copy I thought I had lost (recorded off Sundance about 8-10 years ago). Gary Numan's performance was one of the most memorable, so the 116 run time could explain the missing 5-6mins. I'll still buy this one, hopefully it's fully remastered audio as well.

I'm excited for this release. It really captured a time in music that's often imitated but will never be seen again.

Interesting. My copy arrived yesterday and everything is there except Splodgenessabounds. WoV, OMD, Gary, Klaus, they're all there.

The next question: If Warner gets a good response to the Archive Collection, will they work the same strategy on some Blu-Ray releases? :-O

Watching mine right now. Wall of Voodoo, Dead Kennedys, and Gary Numan are indeed in this cut. Picture and sound quality both excellent. Very pleased with this copy.

My Warner Archive copy has OMD and WoV but no Jules Holland or Echo & The Bunnymen. XTC only appear briefly. I thought that only Splodgeness Abounds were missing from this. Does this mean that there are different Warner Archive versions?
