the doof in all the L.A. band videos

In the L.A. concert--I remember theD.K.'s and a few of the punk bands--X, maybe oingo boingo, maybe a few more--there's this goofy blond dufus, balding with a filly perm and a moustache, with the gayest big-assed plastic framed geek glasses I have ever seen! The guy's in like, the front row, and he keeps getting all of these camera closeups of him pushing up his glasses to the bridge of his nose. Good god, he looks like a refugee from a jimmy buffet concert, and he looks like he'd be ten years too old to be even remotely 'in place' at one of these concerts--guys like that used to bug the living *beep* out of me !
Sorry, just venting.

His glasses look SO 1974 ! (LOL) I remember going to concerts in the 80's--Oingo Boingo, DK's, even the Ramones--and there would always be some thirtyish guy, balding, with glasses or a Tom Selleck 'stache desperately trying to pick up some seventeen-year-old chick. Kind of like the Matthew McConeghey character in 'Dazed and Confused'. I'm thirty-eight now, and I wouldn't DREAM of trying to mosh and act cool at a Korn concert ! I'd get my ass kicked ! not to mention, glasses are a no-no if you're slam dancing in the front row !!!

I think there was someone on the urghmusic yahoo group who claimed he WAS that guy. Never did elaborate, may have been a prank maybe not? There was also
someone from invisible sex on the board.

Weird. I noticed the same guy upon my first viewing... But I got no problem with him. Who cares about how dorky he looks? He was at an awesome effen show and was grovin' with it. Hell, I wish I were him to see The Cramps, etc...

Eee.

My god...I always thought that I was the only person who was obsessed with this guy and looked for him in al of the LA concert shots. The other two people that stand out to me is the girl bopping her head randomly at the beginning of the Oingo Boingo set (reminds me of every pretentious girl I knew at college around that time) and the guy in the yellow shirt mugging for the camera during the Surf Punks performance

"That guy" seems to always show up at shows. BUT, I haven't stopped going to shows since the late 70s and probably I AM THAT GUY now. But I don't have any time to reflect on how cool I don't look. In the last 2 years I have seen The Police, The Cramps, X, Joan Jett, Gang of Four, all from URGH, and also Elvis Costello, Yo La Tengo, and They Might Be Giants--all great bands from back in the day. The crowds are filled with oldsters like me and also young people who simply know great music when they hear it. Long live music loving doofs!!

Is that the one who looks a bit like Elton John?

The guy I like is the dude with the foot-tall mohawk looking TOTALLY PISSED at the Oingo Boingo set. Like everyone else it super into it, and he's just glaring at the stage like he wants to *beep* kill someone, haha. I love that guy.

A lot of strange things happen in this world. Things you don't know about in Grand Rapids.

That's Darby Crash of the band the Germs...!

I love looking at photos and footage taken at really early punk gigs in the 70s, before the fashion aspect had really solidified and spread. Half the crowd just look like typical 70s people with long hair and moustaches and stuff, but you can tell from their faces and their eyes that they were totally into it.

But yeah. That poor guy was definitely behind the curve in '80/'81.

and who was the blonde chick w heavy makeup, who looked like she was on acid or something at (I think) the LA shows? always entertaining...also, I love how the doof has this grimace on his face during X's performance while the slam dance is going on and he's desperately trying to hold his ground near the stage, then pushes his glasses up yet again...ha ha.
