the end

when they walk off into the distance, was there meant to be a sequel?

It kind of seemed open ended, did they live in the wild, or make it back to Spain?

reply

Yes. There were plans for a sequel but the movie didn't do well at the box office so the sequel was never made.

A series of sequels featuring Miguel, Tulio, Chel, Altivo and even the armadillo going after other legends about gold was planned, similar to the Shrek (2001) series, but following the disappointing box-office results they were immediately canceled.

They should make part 2 now! After all, Dreamworks is not doing very well from what I understand, and I think this movie has slowly build a loyal fan base. I do see potential on making sequels from this story without ruining it, there's a lot of material to work with!

reply

Yeah, I would love a sequel! In fact, any animation done in this style would be awesome.

It has fans (like all movies), but it doesn't have enough cult status to secure a sequel. It never gets mentioned anymore. Not even in conversations about box office flops.

You don't understand much if you don't know Dreamworks Animation is hugely successful. Ever heard of Shrek? Kung Fu Panda?

reply

thanks for the answers

They could have called the sequel The Road From El Dorado.
