This movie has it all. All that plot about friendship and adventure moved me very much.
The songs are AWESOME. When the credits started rolling I was like...

I couldn't believe it when I saw its rating on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. This movie is so hiarious and so brillianty acted, with really uplifting and catchy songs.
shareI agree! I feel as if this was one of Dreamworks' best films, and yet it's virtually overlooked. The animation was beautiful, the story was interesting, and the actors were fantastic. Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline really brought about a sense of camaraderie that made the story all the more touching.

If this movie was made by Disney (same characters, same plot etc) it would have at least a 7.5 by now. It's sad, but most probably true.

I agree. People seem to always give Disney (and even Pixar) films a higher rating than they would had it been made by a different company.
For instance: The Road to El Dorado it's kind of like Emperor's New Groove. It may not have a super original story, but it is thoroughly entertaining and has excellent, unique animation. Yet compare the scores. Emperor's New Groove has a much higher rating both on imdb (7.3/10 vs. 6.8/10) and on RottenTomatoes (85% vs. 48%).
I guarantee you if El Dorado had the Disney logo it would have pulled at LEAST a 70% on RT, and at least a 7 on here.

shareI say compared to Dreamworks other movies, this is by far their best. It's by far better than the Shrek movies, Kung Fu Panda, and all their other CGI flicks. It's not as mature as Prince of Egypt but it comes in a close second.

Well, I don't consider this movie fantastic. However it is a darn good film. I rated it an 8/10. It was one of my childhood favorites and I rememeber seeing it in theatres.
EDIT: Re-rated the movie to a 7. Fun and colorful, but nothing amazing.

The quality of the humour in this movie is higher than pretty much any disney movie, the dialogue between miguel and tulio is priceless!
I concur with you. A highly underrated film; it should be at least a 7 overall by everyone's collective votes. I gave it an 8, and in reflection upon the superb acting and clever comedy (as well as the subtle character developments, especially the village chief's), maybe I should reconsider and give it a 9.
