Ok movie, but WHY do directors think black and white is 'artistic'??

The "black and white, for effect" thing has been DONE TO DEATH!! Why the F to people still think that makes a film better in ANY WAY?! Seriously, that ruined the movie for me. Besides all the overly crazy crap that didn't need to be in the movie. It's just stupid in my oppinion. 2/10 stars for me.

It's way cheaper, also the black and white thing is not done to death, sometimes using black and white is better for storytelling etc

Year: 1998
Budget: $60,000

Simple answer: cause it is.

Why do morons think b&w="artsy", "pretentious" or "artistic (as if making that choice is a bad thing)? Is OP the kind of person who dislikes old films because of the lack of colors? Would PI really look better if it had colors?

reply

Of course! B&W is the equivalent of inferior vinyl discs. The cost argument is also ancient.

It's an aesthetic choice. If it doesn't make sense to you, don't worry about.

im really hoping this a troll post. if that's the case, well done. if not, i implore you to look at the film's low budget, and to research how film stock works.
