Bravo

I'm catching up on all of the phantasm movies before I watch ravager. I really wanted to see it in the big screen but the showings are very limited.

I'm embarrassed to say this but I've never watched oblivion. I recall remembering part 3 really jumping the shark and it kind of turned me off if the series for a while. I did go back and watch it again and it wasn't as bad as I remembered but still the weak link of the series from what I've seen so far.

The first thing I want to say about oblivion is for it being shot for 650 k estimated, it really was well done. It's by far the strongest in story line, finally some insight into the tall man which was brilliantly done. Solid performances by Baldwin, Thornberry, Scrimm and the always entertaining Bannister.

The main motivation of my post was to declare how I was blown away by the cut away *beep* to the older footage that was intertwined with the movie. I can't believe Don had all of this *beep* stuff that just seemed to meld so well with the story. They really tied the movie together in a way that I've never seen before. Certainly Phantasm was never meant to be a franchise and I'm sure it was never written that far ahead, so to use this never before seen footage and have I written into the story is even more remarkable.

There is part of me that doesn't want to watch ravager since I feel that the ending in oblivion is excellent, left open to interpretation. Since I'm a Phan though I will watch just to see the crew know last time.

I just can't believe that 18 years has passed and I never thought to give oblivion a shot. I feel guilty in a way but better late than never I suppose.

Same as you, "I'm catching up on all of the phantasm movies before I watch ravager"

Part 3 left a bad taste in my mouth and often makes it hard to do a marathon, but then I think of how good oblivion is.

I'm kind of surprised oblivion has such a low rating, even lower than part 3?

I'm looking forward to ravager, sadly I hear bad things about it. Guesse I'm know soon enough.

So far for me the sequels have gone in order in terms of quality. Part 2 was my least favorite, Part 3 was an improvement, and Part IV was even better than that. So if the trend continues than Ravager should be the best of the bunch. I look forward to seeing it a first time either tonight or tomorrow.
