Why do men and women hate each other so?

SPOILER

I realize the couple in this movie "ends up" together (even though it's not terribly convincing), but isn't there an uncomfortable atmosphere of hatred (basically toward women, but also shared between the men and women) running through the film?

It's just depressing...like, the least light-hearted romantic comedy ever. You get the sense that if they had no sexual or monetary needs, these men and women would have absolutely NOTHING to do with each other. Ever.

Sometimes I feel like same-sex couples have a better chance than heterosexual couples, because at least they start off with some basic stuff in common. But these divorcing and remarrying straight couples seem so far apart, and like they'd happily set each other on FIRE.

Last time I looked most gay people choose their partners based on their sexual attraction to each other too. Ah sex, it sure can drag you apart but also bring you close together too.

The people who have it best as asexual/abstinent couples

I've totally thought the same thing ever since I notice boys could even be attractive. I wished I had been gay because at least I would still like my girl without sex-we have stuff in common just because we are girls.

I agree with the comment on gays basing love as heteros do and I've seen divorced and breaking up families, but the point is really that we feel like if our way doesn't work, another way surely must.
