Terrible plot, tons of hilarious moments

I just watched this for the first time. I have consistently heard that this is the absolute worst Coen bros movie but I actually liked it. I can understand why other people wouldnt like it. Especially die hard Coen brothers fans.

The plot was awful and had way to many cheap cliches like the slow clap, and many romanic comedy tropes. I mean its about a one dimensional gold digger deceiving people with her sexuality only to finally find her soulmate. Yeesh

However, this movie has so many hilarious moments in it that it makes up for the lackluster story. The crying lawyer, billy bob thorton eating a prenup with bbq sauce, the baron, the senior partner, the list goes on and on. This also still feels like a coen brothers movie. The dialogue is clever and weird, the comedy is subtle yet over the top.

I am glad I finally gave this movie a shot. Without a doubt, better than the ladykillers.

yep pretty much felt the exact same. Stuck it on expecting not to like having heard all the negativity surrounding it and being a huge Coens fan too but was pleasantly surprised.

I thought it was a well written and often funny farce. Whilst not on the same level as The Big Lebowski it has some great moments from George and Billy Bob inparticular.

Yeah solid Coen bros movie.

Sounds like yo never bin through the Divorce Courts huh?

It was spot on accurate as strange as it may seem.

I didn't think the plot was so bad, but I agree with you that this is a very, very funny movie. I love the scene early on when the middle aged matron is testifying about her husband's unusual sexual proclivities, "denying her access to the appliance."

The slow clap scene was satire. Almost every scene is a satire of classic cliche hollywood scenes.

That´s the point of the movie.
