Enjoyed it but some things I don't get

- When Eric first entered the gay bar, he was welcomed by his old manager. She didn't say anything like "you're gay??" etc. Did she already know he was gay?

- When Eric was in the school residence, why did he say he was looking for Jonathan, and than suddenly changed his mind and said Rod? Who was he really looking for?

- Was Rod cheating on 'Danny'? Because when Eric called Rod, Rod told him he got back together with Danny. When Eric asked when, he replied in the summer, but Eric said "while we had sex?". Why did Rod lie to him and told him he had a boyfriend the first time they met?

And I thought there would be a twist or something bad happening. Things like:
When Eric, Rod, and Maggie were in a room, they were all making out, and Rod was rubbing Eric's crotch (while Eric was making out with Maggie). Then their friend stood up tipsy, and took a picture of it (Rod rubbing Eric's crotch while he made up with Maggie). This made it seem like the picture would soon play a big role in the movie later on/haunt them.

Also when he met Rod, Rod told him he went to Ohio University. After Rod abandoned him because he had a new boyfriend, Eric went clubbing alot and met a guy named Jonathan. Jonathan told him he went to Ohio University. Later that night Eric went to see him at his university, but couldn't find him and went to visit Rod instead. Who thought there was going to be a twist because while they were having sex, they said to "keep it quiet" because his boyfriend (room mate) might see? I seriously thought he was going to wake up and turn around and it would be Jonathan.

1- I believe she didn't say "you're gay" to him because she probably knew already (gaydar) or Rod and her had conversations at work or outside of work about Eric and they questioned his sexuality.

2- Eric did go to try and find Jonathan, but he didn't know his last name (since they just met), so he asked for rod (remember Rod told Eric he lived in the "gay" dorm, which just so happened to be where Jonathan lived), since he was there way not see if he was home.

3- You never exactly know when they got back together, but when eric asks him that question rod doesn't answer which leads you to believe yes it was while they slept together. As for why he lied, because plan and simple Rod wanted Eric, Danny wasn't around so he could lie and get away with it. Rod never loved Eric, if he had he wouldn't have treated him so badly.

4- I too thought the picture would pop up somewhere down the road, maybe it was supposed too, but got cut out of the final version. I only have a vhs copy of the movie so i don't know if there are deleted scenes on the dvd.

5- that was his roommate not Danny. He told Eric to be quiet so the roommate wouldn't wake up and ruin their night. Thats dorm life.

Hope that helped answer some questions you had.

as for the first question, after watching the movie a second time... watch the manager's face as eric and rod go into the freezer... the time they almost kiss and the girl walks in them. ohh ya, she knows exactly whats goin on.

i think the pic just stopped them from going further with it, and wasnt meant to serve any other purpose in the movie. that would just be so predictable.

The lesbian manager is clearly depicted as being someone who has had a lot of experiences in the real world and probably has a very good gaydar and can spot gays that don't even know they're gay yet (kinda like Eric basically).

I think that you need to have a good knowledge of gay life to fully understand this movie, even I can't really make sense of all the scenes. For example, my understanding of the club scene where the beard is shocked and runs away the night she first goes there, all dressed and made up, is because one of the queens there makes a gay slang comment, so the manager knows it rightaway, it's because she was not ready yet to be an official fag hag, she was still in some kind of denial. How was anyone supposed to know?

As for Rod getting back with his bf, I honestly thought it was a excuse, I didn't even think there was a bf. He clearly liked Eric only for a summertime fling/fu**, classic gay behaviour, so he dropped him as soon as he lost interest.
