One of the best scripts in film history.

'The Enemy' was written by Yilmaz Guney when he was in prison. Like with the scripts of 'Yol' and 'The Herd,' he wrote a script that was extremely detailed and well thought through. Everything in this script, every line fits like a glove onto the hand of Turkey. Ismail's unemployment, the restlessness of his wife, the Greek's who were exiled from their houses unjustly, the wider picture going back to the 'war of independence' in 1923 and the militaristic impositions of the army etc. As most people will know Guney was a Marxist and his later scripts identify with this way of thinking. i.e. conception of history, role of the working class, and an analysis of how society is created within the economic superstructure and the dialectical relationship it has with all layers and spheres of society. This is very important and I believe it is important to read Guney's films not only, but foremostly in this way.

NOTE: Guney's later films can be bought on DVD with English, German and French subtitles on www.Tulumba.com

I believe it is very important to promote Guney to a wider audience, his films although at times not made in the best conditions are milestones in cinema history and the history of a nation.
