Should of died with Richard

Let's be honest... with all the presenters coming and going this show should of died once we heard Richard died, it just ain't the same without him.

As awful as it sounds, I partially agree with you. Richard Whitely made the show, and without him it's not as good as it used to be. Legendary show though!

Countdown being a word/grammar usage programme, I'll just be a git and remind you: "Should HAVE died with Richard" or "Should've" - there is nowhere in correct English writing where "should of" can be followed by a verb... just people hearing "Should've" as "should of".

IMDb Message Boards being a message board, I'll just be a git and remind you: One should always reply directly to the person they are talking to, not just tack their replies onto the bottom of the thread - there is nowhere in correct message board usage where reply to "Juan17" can be the same as replying to "diamount", the person who made the original mistake.

I agree. While I am American, I hold the English language dear and it disgusts me when people abuse it with garbage like "of" in the place of "have" or the laziness of the "'ve" contraction, especially when the original poster used it numerous times, including in the heading.

Few crimes against the English language bother me more than this with a few glaring exceptions: people that end statements with a preposition or people that erroneously think a statement starting with "Guess...." ends with a question mark.

"Guess who I saw today."

Not a question. It's more of a request, along the lines of:

"Pick up that wet towel."

Perhaps you're asking someone to do something but you are not asking a question.

"Can you guess who I saw today?"

THAT'S a question.

Stop raping English grammar, imbeciles.

If you can't do it right, don't do it all; speech included.
