GREAT PERFORMANCE

I thought that Sean Pertwee done incredibly well as Macbeth...

(Particularly in the Banquet scene when he looses control)...

Perhaps. I think this film was too rushed, if anything. Bad pacing and inappropriate music made all the other flaws (such as some of the other actors being less-than-into the act) way too obvious.

I have it on DVD now, and while I like the idea of its experiment, I do take issue with a lot of directorial decisions that were made.

My guess would be that, if you can find it anywhere, get the Bob Jones University version. Yes, the production values on that are even lower, but I can buy with the setting and performance in it that Lady Macbeth would have a half-sane motive to want to turn evil. And I can believe BJ3's depiction of Macbeth's slow decent into madness. Sean seemed way too eager to leap right in to his villain role, and unconvincing as a man with second thoughts.

Overall, a setting of IRA-like soldiers battling with rockets and what-not doesn't suit this retelling at all. The VHS box art had me believing it would be about gang warfare and corporate corruption. What I got instead was...well...surreal.
