What happened after Project Mayhem?

Did Fight Club continue? Did blowing up the financial institutions do anything? The narrator was sued for Tyler's urine in the soup. That, plus Bob's body buried in the yard. The arson investigation would eventually lead to the discovery of the dynamite-making supplies at the Paper Street house. Would Marla spill the beans?

Love this film. Love the ending. Love the possibility of continuing the story in my mind with the help of other FC fans. Who's in???

One version of the story would be, Fight Club wasn't continued. As narrator realized he himself is evil to society, he would've ended up in jail or attempted a suicide. Police would've tracked all the destruction was caused by this underground vigilante group and arrested them. Few, who are still out there, are without a leader. So, there would be no clear direction for them on what to do. If Narrator ends up in Jail, Marla would be too high to understand what's going on.

The Second version is Fight Club continuing, things are just getting started. They're growing, even they've members from law enforcement. They'll continue what they're doing, I cannot fathom at what cost though.

Great job!

I've also wondered if Tyler and the narrator were figments of Marla's imagination.

reply

Nothing. Almost the whole movie was a dream in the narrator's head. Not a theory and not an idea. Fact. Just check out jackdurden.com.

okay.......care to explain?

Okay, I get it. But which parts were not in his head? I guess aside from peeing in soup and splicing film, did he, the narrator, break any laws? Well there's the arson thing. Stealing biohazard waste is probably criminal, too. Without proof or memory of these events, how long would he be in lockup? Seems the cops would be as culpable as he since they were lucid and knowingly allowed/participated in the events.

You clearly don't understand what a fact is

and you clearly don't know how to copy/paste

Just because there's a website that says none of its real doesn't mean it's so, I have been on that website and I have seen the movie many times and the website gets a ton wrong

gets a ton wrong? yeah, like what?

"Marla and Tyler look alike"
This is a reach, yes neither of them really gives a *beep* about appearance, but to say they dress alike, would need much more telling evidence than what's provided, and their hairstyles are not alike, Tyler has short and spiked hair until the end when he has a buzz cut, whereas Marla has a tangled ratty mess because she can't afford to get it styled.
"Marla and the narrator look alike"
Other than the one screenshot he gives this is completely false, he is seen wearing button downs in almost every scene.
"Marla has no reflection"
I almost laughed out loud when I read this, how can a self proclaimed fight club expert just forget about the fact that the entire breast examination scene is shot in a mirror showing Marla's face, neck, and shoulders.
"Marla takes over jack in the thrift store"
This point relies heavily on the assumption that Marla is selling the narrators jeans, which they aren't. The website says "What are the odds that two dryers right next to each other would contain only men?s blue jeans" which is a question based on the false premise that the only things in the dryers were jeans, they weren't, the narrator even says as she leaves "you left half your clothes" meaning that there are more clothes like shirts in the dryers and she went for the jeans because they were the most valuable. So a more relevant question would be if these are the narrators clothes then why would he combine shirts and jeans in both dryers he used rather than putting all his jeans in one and everything else in the other? And the answer is he didn't, those dryers were each owned by different people and half of each of those people's clothes were jeans that Marla stole.
I can't refute the next two points because the part on the plane is true but does nothing to prove Marla is fake, and there is a theme of masculinity throughout the movie, however the point the movie is trying to make is that society is taking away people's masculinity, not that Marla is.
"Big rubbery one"
1.if you have to change the coloration of the scene for what Marla is holding to resemble a dildo, then in all likelihood it was either a joke/Easter egg left for eagle-eye viewers or it was something completely innocent that looks like a dildo if the scene's colors are messed up.
2.how the hell is owning a dildo symbolic of surrendering his masculinity to testicular cancer? That makes no sense, he's probably not gonna use it unless you think he's putting it up his ass, and it wouldn't make sense as a metaphor for woman needing it instead of him post-testicular cancer, because most testicular cancer victims still have a dick and can still have sex with maybe less sex drive, they just can't produce sperm, just like people who have vasectomies.
3. Big rubbery one is an expression, not a common one, but I've definitely heard it before.
4.no matter how hard this guy reaches there is only one explanation that makes sense for the "that's not a threat to you" line and that is to say she prefers sex with men to dildos. It would not make sense at all the way he claims, because if he was turning into Marla it would still be a threat because he could put it in his ass.
"The vibrating suitcase"
It's hard to give much evidence as to why this can't be a hint, but I think the evidence given in favor of it is flimsy, which is really bad for his argument because this is the strongest piece of evidence he provides. And throwers is the most common term for baggage handlers not a sexual reference.
I would go on but it's three AM and I think I've proved my point that the jack durden THEORY relies on false assumptions, and flimsy evidence to prove a point that, if it were true, would take away from the very important message the movie holds about our society.
Also, what are the odds no one would realize this until 15 years later if it were actually true.

There is so much wrong with this entire post, I don't even know where to begin. It is absolutely discouraging to know there are people with this little ability to understand subtext, but it at least explains the success of super hero franchises and endless terrible remakes of classics.

Lol you're such an idiot, I gave a well thought out response as to why I disagree with the jack durden theory, and you basically just said "you disagree with me so you're wrong." And I don't understand why you seem to think that me disagreeing with a theory that does not use much substantial evidence means I don't appreciate good films or understand their meanings. Fight club is one of my favorite movies, and is one of the biggest reasons that I really got into movies, because the message it sends about consumerism and meaninglessness in the modern American lifestyle really spoke to me and changed the way I see the world. So get off your high horse and stop acting like you're somehow enlightened by the fact that you believe in a theory that you think went over people's heads, when in reality it was likely never an intention of Fincher or the screenwriter to imply that everyone but the narrator was fake.
