Where did the Monkey come from?

When Gin takes the mask off of it's holder, and places gum there, the next shot is her leaving, and all of a sudden, there's a monkey's face there. Where did that come from? Or was it one of those movie things that actually wasn't there, but the guard was so panicked, he saw a monkey face in his mind?

She put a monkey mask in it's place.

The gum was to hold the weight sensor down. The mask was placed there to mock the guard.

I always thought, why not make a cheap replica of the mask? Then the guard wouldn't have noticed, possibly buying them a little more time

I always wondered the same thing...I guess they did it for comedy reasons and an even bigger slap in the face to the museum...

Yep - the same reason that Zeta Jones put a Elvis painting in the place of the Rembrandt that she stole at the start of the movie.
