Entrapment - was it really 'The Saint' screenplay ?

From what I've been lead to believe, "Entrapment" is actually the aborted screenplay originally destined to be the modern movie version of "The Saint".

An older - not necessarily elderly - Simon Templar, alias the Saint,is intrigued by some high profile thefts using his old modus operandi, down to the inclusion of his famous stickman figure.

The rest of the file would pretty much follow as per entrapment but Gin is revealed to be Templar's illegitimate daughter and that the law-enforcement offical Templar co-operates with is Inspector Teal (of Interpol instead of Scotland Yard)

By the way the money stolen during the KL operation would have been tainted in someway - possible corruption or drug money which again would fit with The Saint's "Robin Hood of modern crime" methods. Also both films were released by Paramount.

Anyone else heard of this version?

Nope. Entrapment was one of the scripts rejected by Pierce Brosnan who at the time was preparing his "Thomas Crown" remake. He didn't buy the idea of the Guy setting the Girl up, he wanted to stick to the original, and he did.

That's a Smith & Wesson...and you've had your six.
