the 'Laser' scene $50,000,000 ?

reported to have been about $50 mil. of the movies $66 mil budget due to marketing, writing, and copyrighting that scene for future royalties. Thats correct. The one memorable scene of a God awful script and film, with 2-dimensional characters and cardboard acting was most of the entire budget of the whole film! Look it up.

Just another reason to hate this film.

If so, that scene may have been borrowed from the 1960 movie "Under Ten Flags" (Sotto dieci bandiere).

In that World War II-based movie, an Allied spy has to avoid sensor beams to approach a German safe. The similarities between the scenes in these two movies is astonishing, especially since the "Under Ten Flags" scene was pretty low tech yet effective (looks like light shining on yarn in this B&W movie).
