Other poor choices by the Fox network?

I am sad that Fox cancelled "Firefly." I think that it was a poor choice. Recently, I was browsing and discovered that, before ABC picked it up, Fox also rejected "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place." Yeah, I know that Pizza Place doesn't have the fanbase that Firefly does, but I enjoy it.

So, I was wondering: What other poor choices has Fox made? I'm talking about choices that had at least one of the two following outcomes:
(1) Prevented shows from airing (cancelled Firefly)
(2) Chose not to air a show or chose to cancel it, but the show was picked up by another network (Fox rejected Pizza Place, which was picked up by ABC). Or sometimes shelved films/movies gain a cult following despite being shelved.

Anyone know of any more? I'm just curious. By the way, I'm not bashing Fox. I do like some of their choices (such as Bones). I think I'm just still unhappy about the Firefly thing.

Fox cancelled another series that Nathan Fillion was on...
Drive http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0770521/
Fox cancelled it after like only 2 or 3 episodes. And it looked very promising... intriguing.
So I was definitely disappointed they pulled the plug on it SO soon...
without giving it any kind chance At All!

If you like Bones... have you checked out Nathan Fillion's 'Castle' on abc? It has kind of a 'bones' feel to it... :)

reply

Yeah, Fox seriously seems to have issues with Nathan! They need to wake up!!

Here in the UK, most shows - usually only consisting of a short number of episodes per season compared to most US ones, admittedly - are given a chance by airing at least one complete season before canning it. It seems Fox is the epitomising company for all the US companies without sufficient patience.

Firefly
Dollhouse
Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Drive
The Inside
Tru Calling
Many, Many More.

reply

YES!!!! "The Inside" was AMAZING!!! That is what I was going to say!!! I recall reading an article shortly after it was cancelled that said that the writer, who really enjoyed "The Inside," had seen NO advertising for it anywhere. Rather, she saw heavy advertising for another Spring-Summer 2005 premiere - "The Closer." She went on to say that it was more of a Winter procedural than something for light SUmmer viewing. Well said. I really wish it would see a DVD release, but... FOX sucks.

Yes this is also the network that turned down Two guys and a girl as well as a Doctor Who relaunch in 1996.
But thats just off the top of my head

reply

Pushing Daisies was ABC, but I agree it was wrongfully cancelled. Damn writers' strike....

reply

Axing Married...with Children without giving it a finale episode.

This year they cancelled The Chicago Code.

How do we get someone to release Two Guys and a Girl on DVD?

Very impressive list. I'd like to add just one more, cancelled after only one season and, I thought, very enjoyable.

New Amsterdam

Great list. I had forgotten a lot of those. Briscoe County wasn't given a chance
