a question about the grave scene

When Marian and Mr Hartwright are digging up the grave you can hear someone screaming in the backround.
Is it Anne?

reply

No, I believe it was some kind of night bird. Remember, by this time Anne was dead, buried in the ground next to where Walter was digging.

Huh?

How can someone be the child of 2 women and a man?

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Ok lets try this again.Ann was the Illigitimate Daughter of the Father of Marianne and Laura.

OK, I gotcha Hammerfanatic46.

Unfortunately, or maybe it was planned that way, several of the actresses looked so similar it was hard for me to tell them apart. Plus the flash backs didn't help. Since I'm not so familiar with English culture at that time, it was hard to figure out whether an on screen character was supposed to be in the past or present of the story.

I can tell the difference between America in the 1940s and 1960s. England in the 1840s and 1860s, not so much.

I dont think I put it as well as I might the first time. The American version was also slightly cut so maybe that was confusing too.
