What happened to the Original Woman In White_Anne Kathrik_Spoiler

I found the film mildly entertaining, certainly not an intensely intriguing mystery.
However,
I find it puzzling, what happened to the original woman in white.
This may involve a spoiler.
I found her character one of the most interesting.
I can only assume when they dragged her off to the asylum that they killed her
and put Laura in her place.
This lack of explanation or regard for her well-being in the film makes it less credible or carry meaning for me.

I find the opening explanation of the film and her character description distasteful.
To describe someone destitute and abused as mentally ill is itself mental.
The poor woman was traumatised and frightened.
We see for ourselves how some care and love can soothe a person back to health with Laura, not re-traumatisation.😩
