Maybe I'm mistaken but...

There is a scene where Phillip Baker Hall's character is talking to Tate Donovan's charcter outside and after Tate says something to Phillip. Phillip's character says "You smell, you farted".

WTF? Maybe I was mistaken or day dreaming but can anyone tell me what was really said between them?
