Larsen episode

Right at the start, Peter mentions "There's gonna be some big bucks today, I can feel it."

Then after Michael is done being introduced, Peter says "Well Michael I hope you don't O.D. on money."

Heh, what a coincedence.

And most people forget, after Michael breaks the $100,000 barrier and passes his spins, it's finally Ed Long's turn, and he hits a Whammy on his 1st spin. BUT, hits $5000 + spin his next two turns to everyone's amazement for a quick $10,000 (he just got lucky though, heh heh). Peter Tomarken even asks "What's happening?" But, Ed doesn't wanna pass his spin to Michael, and he hits a whammy on his next spin and loses everything and unfortunately he's done.

I'm really glad GSN aired "Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal." I hope every PYL fan was able to record it or at least watch.

I did. I never saw that when it aired (then again, I wasn't even alive yet). When I first saw the scandal episode, at the end I was like WTF!!!!

Lori Petty = good movie

Let's see, I would've been 5 at the time of this (long) episode from 1984. My birthday is on Xmas so I wouldn't have turned 6 until then. These eps happened in May.

I didn't get to see it (my cable company doesn't even offer GSN - how ridiculous is THAT!!), but I've heard so much about it. Is there anywhere online maybe that I could catch it?

reply

Maybe you could try looking it up with Google or Yahoo.

Yes, I got it. It was great to see that episode since I never saw it originally. I liked the part with Ed Long getting the two 5,000-spin squares in a row and then the whammy. But it was just a coincidence-remember, unlike Michael, he was not watching the board the same way.

The way I feel about this is Peter had no right to air that one thing that evening and bad mouth Larsen! If he had done it back in the 1980's it would have been different but waiting until Larsen had died is not right because by waiting until 2003 by then there were game shows giving away prizes more than 250000 dollars. With the way Peter was insulting Larsen on that nightime thing in 2003 it made me and others so angry we were all wishing all other game show hosts, Bob Barker, Alex Trebek, Pat Sajak, Vanna White, and even Regis Philbin would come in there and do the following to Peter- Vanna take her purse and hit him in the head, Alex, Regis and Pat slap him with white gloves and old Bob give him a Chuck Norris karate kick!

The only reason why me and others felt like this is because Peter was insulting all those other hosts because of how he was acting like a sore looser over a mere 100 thousand dollars where the others were all giving away things that were of higher values. Specially since a Corvette costs over 40 thousand now and a motor home costs between 70 and 150 thousand minimumand Bob was giving those way either on a showcase or by playing Lucky seven or golden road. So what I am saying is Peter insulted himself by acting like a sore looser. I can not see why Larsen's wife did not sue Peter for insulting her late husband!

LISTEN HERE!!! Sop dissing Peter! He probibly wasn't allowed to talk about this for at least 20 years... Peter wasn't acting like a sore loser... YOU Come off like you know everything about what happpened... At least SOMEONE knew that the Larson dude was strange... BTW larson was on the run from the cops when the guy died in 1999... He had some screws loose that is for sure..

Also... You can't stand it as Peter told it like it was.... After all he was there and you were not....

I love You Peter Tomarken! I will miss you always... You will never be forgotten....

Listen up,

There is also that old saying "Let bygones be Bygones!" Peter should have after 20 years quit holding a grudge against the man. Just because a person watches a tv show enough that he memorized the playing board to where he could build up such a big amount of money does not mean someone should hold a grudge against him just becuase some stupid budget people at the studio building did not have enough money on hand to pay the guy off at first. One thing i also have to tell you all is I am a decendant of two generations of preachers and the way i have been brought up and taught is that you are not to lust over money and that is just what Peter did he held a grudge over the amount of money that guy won fair and square all these years. Since Peter has died due to an airplane crash I bet when he first arrived up at the gates of Heaven he has had to face GOD with the question "Why did you hold a grudge agaist that man for so long just because he won over 100 thousand dollars?" So you see all I am saying is anyone who holds a grudge agaist someone over money is not a very nice person and makes the kindness of all other game show hosts look bad.

HOLD IT.... I had a friend tell me that Peter Defended Michael larson... He said "HE WON HIS MONEY FAIR AND SQUARE... The one that had the grudge agienst larson was CORROTHERS himself. In the end, if he didn't get his money, they may have gotten sued... What's worse, future contestants were warned agienst trying something like that... Not from Peter, but from the corfinators that worked with the people going on the show...

I love You Peter Tomarken! I will miss you always... You will never be forgotten....

Well one thing I have to say is when i saw the special I heard one of them say that peter insulted the man but who knows that could have been someone else with peter there of the group and i was not paying attention. i am sorry if I have angered any of you.

I don't remember him bad mouthing Larson at all. What he might've been saying is that in the 80's, when game shows ruled in daytime, you couldn't be a millionaire then because the game shows wouldn't give away high cash amounts. Today it is a different story with Millionaire and Deal or No Deal. He was just making a comparison between the game shows of then and now. He didn't care that Larson won all that money, he was just amazed, that was all.

reply

The way those two others who were with him talked they were the other two contestants that day and they acted like they were still a bit sore about it after all these years.

reply

Well, wouldn't you be in a way? You end up not only losing, but by a big amount. Actually, Ed had already won money (he was the returning champ).
