Perry's accent makes no sense

Perry always speaks with some kind of an English accent. But it is stated numerous times throughout the series that he was born and raised in Stovepipe town, which is never seen but is clearly a poor area of Prince Edward Island. So he should speak with a Canadian/North American accent like Emily, Ilse, his mother, Aunt Tom (who raised him), and everyone else from there does. It's kind of strange because I have seen Kris Lemche, who plays Perry and is from Canada, in other things and he does not talk that way. So it was obviously a deliberate decision to have him put it on for the show.

Hi MMac,

I agree, his accent makes little sense, logically. I just interpret it as they're trying to make him seem a little lower in class than Emily and her family.

He also speaks with bad grammar quite a bit, which indicates the same thing.

I actually can't even understand what he's saying sometimes, and since there are no English subtitles, that's somewhat annoying.

I do love how he always calls Aunt Elizabeth "Missus," no matter how many times she reminds him not to! Very endearing! :)

I do not find that Perry Miller's accent is British in the least. He sounds as if he is from the maritimes. I find myself wondering why the Murrays and other PEI locals have less of an accent.

Perry's accent is not anywhere near a British accent lol. Sounds like a thick Newfoundland accent.
