Martha Clarendon...Was she a Wizard?

Was Martha Clarendon a Wizard, or some other very powerful force of good? A being that is the polar opposite of LiNoge? Has been around for thousands of years in different forms and now just so happens to be an old woman?

Perhaps that is why LiNoge killed her very first thing? He sensed her power and that she could defeat him, so he caught her off guard, killing her physical form only.

Or perhaps Martha knew all along the demon would come and allowed it to kill her physical form so she could be born anew, as something much more powerful, which will eventually hunt down LiNoge and destroy him for good?

Here's my take on it after seeing it years ago and seeing it again recently. I think Linoge killed Martha because she was one of the oldest residents on the island and knew all the dirty little secrets of everyone. He (using his cane) got that information from her. He was staring at the cane when he was talking to Robbie (the town manager) telling him about his mother. The cane was covered with Martha's blood.

Good thoughts. He never says anything about Martha's past or secrets as he did with the others, so that might lend credibility to your theory.

I always thought he killed her because he had to start somewhere and waxing an old dame like that was sure to rile everyone up. Because why would anyone do that to an old woman? He must be a bad guy! Or to quote "Nuke" LaLoosh...he was "announcing his presence with authority!"

The cane idea, that's a new one. Never thought of that. I always regarded it as a tool of sorts. He was looking at it when he was talking to Robbie. But I figured he was looking through it's eyes to see him because Robbie was behind him. He knew a lot about people without being in possession of the cane and it didn't seem anyone knew about Kat Withers abortion and I doubt Martha Clarendon did. Is she REALLY knew every ones dirty secrets, the lies, the hate, the crimes, they'd probably be happy she was gone. Just my thoughts on it.

I always thought he killed her because she was alive during the last storm of the century. And maybe he had visited already but was denied. And she was one of the children he had set his sites on.
