Spoiler Question Why there was need to ask the child from parents?

The devil/Wizard Linoge when he had the power to influence minds of people and even change his form to different persons ( like he converted himself in to that town manager's mother) why there was need to ask the children from parents. He could very well influence them and made them go with him ( as he was able to make them sleep or sing the same song).

Any particular reason for that?

There's never really an explanation for that if I remember correctly, but if he didn't have to ask anyone, the movie would have been significantly shorter!

reply

Yeah you are right but I still feel there would have been a point behind that.. could he not take things by force? or he could only take things which are given to him?

reply

I never read the book, but in the movie, the child had to be given freely. They had to agree. It was part of the rules. Like using the weirding stones. Even though the parents wanted to change their minds afterwards, they'd already agreed to the drawing of lots.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

Would of been easier to go to an adoption agency. Could of had his choice of children that would of been freely given to him.

i think it was the same kind of rule that a vampire has to be invited into a home or else he cant come in...

who created that rule? god? the universe? having to give up your child willingly sounds like a typical mythological rule

reply

It was about innocence and community giving a child freely. The bible mentions stories of such sacrifices, fairytales and many other books.
