Looking for U.S. version DVD of 'Life on Earth' series

The only place where I've located the 13-episode series "Life on Earth" (1978) DVDs is in Region 2 format. Does anyone know where to find the DVDs for this series that are available in Region 1 (U.S.) format????
It's the best, most completely captivating history of our planet that I've ever seen. Evolution, biodiversity, and how we view life from different creatures' perspectives is incredible. A definite must see for all natural history/bioscience students.

At this time the only thing to do is get a region free player (and one that can freely switch between NTSC and PAL) and get the UK release.

US viewers might be shocked to find that the original version is some 13 hours long (my first introduction was a 4 hour version.)

It would be nice if all this interest in the 'planet earth' series might generate at least minor interest in the older ones (this, 'trials of life' and 'life of plants' definitely need release in the US), but I fear the interest in the new series is all about eye-candy.

The region 1 version is still unavailable and, it seems, unlikely to be produced. Fact is, good though this series was, it's now approaching thirty years old! Our understanding of natural history and evolution has moved on significantly and I think the BBC would be wary of releasing LOE without a time-consuming and costly edit (time has uncovered some errors in the narrative), which would probably be uneconomic for a specialist interest DVD - particularly when more up-to-date series' have been released by the same author/corporation.

Solutions?
If buying a multi-region player is not an option, it may be possible to obtain 'hack' codes which enable your player to play Region 2 DVDs. If your retailer doesn't know, check the web - search for 'DVD hack codes'.

Plenty of sites offer solutions, and can sometimes make your player region-free so you don't have to swap regions all the time - helpful if you own a lot of overseas DVD titles as well as local ones.

Many recent players have a relatively easy method which provides a solution, often just by keying a code sequence into your DVD remote control. On older players it may be more fiddly, but it's usually possible.

Someone on VEOH.com has the whole complete 13 part Life On Earth series 9all 13 episodes) uploaded on that site and also someone has uploaded the whole series and other Attenborough series such as Living Planet on Youtube. I am watching a Life On Earth episode on VEOH right now!
