Two for Texas

How did the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto symbolize the events taking place in the United States at the time. How were they indicative of American Manifest Destiny?

Sounds like someone had an essay assigned to them in school. Recently I ran across an analysis of muster rolls at an Jacinto. Many names were identical to American soldiers stationed in Louisiana.

The analysis did not extend to see if it was possible they were sent or volunteered to fight wearing civilan clothes after receiving leave. The US Army may have turned a blind eye to what these men were doing.

The Texas Republic existed from 1836 to 1845. They would have been a state sooner except northeners blocked them from entering the Union because they would have been a slave state.

A number of southern and border state units volunteered to fight in Texas on their own.
