what order do these films go in??

ignoring the US films. what order do Ring , Ring 2, Ring 0, Ring Virus and The Spiral go in?

are they each different films or the same i'm a bit confused can someone help me out?

thanks

reply

First off, "The Spiral" is the original sequel to Ring and it is now discarded, so you can count it as before Ring 2 or after. "The Ring Virus" is the Korean remake, so that can just go at the bottom.

Ring 0
Ring
Ring 2
The Spiral
The Ring Virus

^^ That was the chronological (sp?) order. In the order they were made, it could go like:

Ring (1998)
The Spiral (1998)
Ring 2 (1999)
The Ring Virus (1999)
Ring 0 (2000)

Wake me up when September ends!

Could you (or anyone) explain me how The Spiral relates to the USA Ring films in order. I have seen Ring and Ring 2 with Naomi Watts, and I tought Spiral is the third part, but I am confused now. Is Spiral a sequel to them or to the Japanese Ringu???
thanx

There's only trouble and desire.

The Japanese Ringu.

To give a little more detail:

RASEN/SPIRAL is a direct sequel to RINGU, both based on novels by Koji Suzuki. However, RINGU departs substantial from its source material, so SPIRAL doesn't quite fit.

RINGU 2 is also a direct sequel to RINGU. An original story that stays faithful to the film version of RINGU (rather than Suzuki's novels), it ignores SPIRAL comnpletely.

RINGU 0 is a prequel that was made later. Like SPIRAL, it tries to fuse elements from the first RINGU movie with elements from Suzuki's writing, and they don't always fit.

THE RING VIRUS is a Korean remake of RINGU.

Does anyone think they'll ever make Loop? I've read Ring and Spiral and just thought it might be nice if the whole trilogy was made in Japan. Not sure if Loop and Ring 0:Birthday are the same or not...

reply

No, Loop and Ring 0 are nothing alike...

I doubt that they would ever make a direct adaptation of Loop. The majority hated Spiral because of all the scifi elements, but that's all Loop is...it hasn't one hint of horror. It involves virtual reality and cancer epidemics.

If they ever wanted anything like Loop, they would have to take the apocalyptic element and build on it with a totally new story from Ringu, Ringu 2, and Ringu 0. Otherwise, I'm 99.9% sure it's not happening...

so pretty much, chronologically speaking, the order would be:

RASEN
RINGU 0
RINGU
RINGU 2

correct? because i have all except Ringu (Ringu is the only one i've seen so far), just picked them up, and I'd like to watch them in the order in which they take place, not neccessarily the order they were made. I've seen both american versions, but am anxious to start watching the originals. however, i want to watch them in the proper order to get a full sense of the story.

thanks.

chronologically they would go

Ring(u)0:birthday
:
:
Ring(u)
:
:
Ring(u)2---------------Rasen(spiral)

generally i would recommend seeing them in the order they were made (except, see rasen after ring2, as an alternative to the superior ring2) but if you've seen the first JP film then you'd probably be clued up enough to appreciate ring0. so, if you want to watch chornologically i would suggest:
ring0 ------> ring ------> ring2 -------> rasen

but be aware that rasen is kinda a curio. i really enjoyed it but not because it's a quality piece of film-making.
also, ring0 doesn't get nearly as much appreciation as it deserves. it's got a very different feel to the other films and none of the visual flair that nakata gives the other films but it's got some wonderful details and actually does have a 'creep' factor to it if you get into it.

a recent survey suggested that 3 out of 4 people made up 75% of the population.

I'm watching "The Spiral (Rasen)" right now.
I don't get it - why is the girlfriend from the end of the first movie a main character - isn't she lead in Ringu 2?
This is the next day after the events in the first film.
Yet the second film is a few days later!?
To me...it goes
01: Ringu - it's the first flick - it sets the scene
02: Rasen - It follows the doctor called to do the autopsy on the Dad that dies in the first one and also features the dead guys girlfriend.
03: Ringu 2 - it focuses even more on the girlfriend and her hunt for more answers behind her partners death by finding the mother and the son.
And it ends that 'chapter'
04: Ringu 0 - The 'prequel'where you learn more about Saddako

reply

Unforunatly ring 2 and Spiral cant co exist, you either follow one or the other. Spiral is completly ignored and contradicted by Ring 2. Personally, i recomend Spiral as the real sequel. It is suzukis original intention and work, and is a far better film anyway.

reply

In Japan:
Ringu 0 ---> Ringu ---> Ringu 2 ---> Ringu 3 would follow this if there was one
Ringu 0 ---> Ringu ---> Rasen (no more will follow this)

In Korea:
Ring Virus

In United States:
The Ring 3 ---> The Ring ---> The Ring Two

Helpful?

reply

Just as an aside - The Ring Virus (i.e. the Korean version) sticks more closely to the original novel, like Rasen, so you could watch them together. Ringu and Ringu 2 go together, and I can't comment on Ring 0: Birthday as I haven't seen it.

And of course, don't even bother with the US remakes!

I recommend Hideo Nakata's Ringu and Ringu 2, and reading Koji Suzuki's novels (Ring, Spiral, Loop). They're two quite different takes, and the other related films aren't very good.
