Maria Bello hear her roar?

Anyone else think she sounded a touch like Helen Reddy when she sings? That being said, I don't really understand the love for her here on the boards. As an actress, Bello has done far better roles. She was the least talented of the cast in terms of singing. I found her character's bravado in her appeal both sexually and (singing) talent-wise off-putting and sadly misplaced. I have watched this dozens of times and I want to like her character, but I just can't. I suppose its possible the parts that rounded out her character were left on the cutting room floor. Personally, I felt "Suzi Loomis" was a waste of time and space in a film that otherwise had characters and talent that at times really soared. Speaking specifically, Paul Giamatti and Andre Braugher of course.
